Riverside Lift Station & Force Main

Replacement of a 1960s lift station with a new submersible station, 4,800 linear feet of force main and a biofilter odor-control system.

The challenge

What made it hard.

The existing station had to keep pumping every day of construction, including through two storm events. The site sat in the river floodplain, and neighbors had complained about odor for years.

The solution

How we built it.

A temporary bypass pumping system was installed and tested before demolition began, with automatic backup and continuous remote monitoring. New electrical equipment was elevated above the base flood elevation.

The odor-control system was designed with the authority's engineers and commissioned before the new station went into service, so the neighborhood experienced relief as soon as the flows were transferred.

The outcome

Where it landed.

There were no bypass exceedances and no treatment interruptions during the project. Odor complaints dropped to zero after commissioning, and the new station now runs unattended with remote monitoring.
