Alder Creek Pump Station No. 4

A 24 MGD pump station with wet well, three vertical turbine pumps, standby generation, electrical building and telemetry, tied into the district’s existing transmission main.

The challenge

What made it hard.

Groundwater sat within four feet of the surface, and the station footprint was 60 feet from the nearest home. The district also required the existing main to remain in service while the new station was connected.

The solution

How we built it.

We used secant pile shoring and a deep-well dewatering system with settlement monitoring on the adjacent homes. Pumps and motors were pre-purchased and factory-tested before the building was complete.

An acoustic enclosure and residential-grade louvers keep operating noise below the district’s 55 dBA night limit. The tie-in was completed during a planned eight-hour shutdown, with temporary supply maintained from the neighboring station.

The outcome

Where it landed.

The station passed its performance test at 110 percent of design capacity with vibration levels well inside the equipment specification. Noise monitoring at the property line has remained below the permit limit since start-up.
